Target intelligence / Profile preview
Mucin 1 (MUC1) is a high molecular weight, type I transmembrane glycoprotein. After autoproteolytic cleavage at the GSVV motif within its SEA domain, it forms a heterodimeric complex (MUC1*) consisting of MUC1-N (extracellular domain) and MUC1-C (transmembrane and cytoplasmic tail). MUC1* plays roles in cell protection, signaling, and adhesion, particularly in epithelial cells. Aberrant expression and glycosylation of MUC1* are common in cancers, making it a valuable biomarker and therapeutic target.
