Target intelligence / Profile preview
Mucin-1 (MUC1) is a heterodimeric transmembrane glycoprotein. The C-terminal subunit (MUC1-C) remains membrane-bound after autoproteolytic cleavage and plays a role in signal transduction. It interacts with receptor tyrosine kinases and other signaling molecules, promoting cell growth and survival. MUC1-C is frequently overexpressed or aberrantly localized in carcinomas and is a target for therapeutic antibodies.
Targeting MUC1-C with antibodies to inhibit its oncogenic signaling and promote tumor cell death.
