Mucin-15 (MUC15) is a highly glycosylated, cell surface–associated glycoprotein belonging to the mucin family[1][2][3][6]. It is predominantly expressed in tissues such as placenta, salivary gland, thyroid, trachea, esophagus, kidney, testis, and various immune cells, as well as in several tumor types[1][4][6]. MUC15 has structural motifs implicated in protein–protein interactions, including potential roles in signal transduction through domains associated with epidermal growth factor receptor and Src homology 2 regions[1]. Biologically, MUC15 is thought to modulate cell adhesion to the extracellular matrix and participate in pathways involving O-linked glycosylation and protein metabolism[2]. Its dysregulation has been associated with cancer development and progression, as well as with pregnancy-related disorders such as preeclampsia[2][5]. There are no known therapeutic drugs specifically targeting MUC15, and it is not currently considered a major therapeutic target or receptor based on available evidence[2][5][6].
