Target intelligence / Profile preview
Mucopolysaccharide synthesis refers to the biosynthetic processes that produce glycosaminoglycans (GAGs). These are long, unbranched polysaccharide chains composed of repeating disaccharide units, essential components of connective tissues, and play critical roles in cell adhesion, signaling, and structural integrity of extracellular matrices. Defects in GAG degradation, not synthesis, lead to mucopolysaccharidoses (MPS), lysosomal storage disorders characterized by undegraded GAG accumulation.
