Target intelligence / Profile preview
Mucopolysaccharides, also known as glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), are long, unbranched polysaccharide chains composed of repeating disaccharide units. They are found throughout the body and play crucial roles in building bone, cartilage, tendons, corneas, skin, and connective tissue. Deficiency in lysosomal enzymes required for GAG degradation leads to mucopolysaccharidoses, a group of lysosomal storage disorders characterized by GAG accumulation and progressive cellular damage.
