Mucosal addressin cell adhesion molecule 1 (MAdCAM-1) is an endothelial cell adhesion molecule primarily involved in directing lymphocyte trafficking to mucosal tissues, especially within the gastrointestinal tract. It interacts with integrins α4β7 and VLA-4, as well as L-selectin, to mediate leukocyte adhesion and rolling. MAdCAM-1 expression is upregulated during inflammation, and it is a therapeutic target for inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.
