Disruption in its balance can result in pathological conditions including infections, allergies, inflammatory bowel disease, or autoimmunity. While it is a critical concept in immunology—and an important consideration for vaccine development—it is not itself a druggable target like an enzyme or receptor but rather a complex physiological network[1][2].
