Overview

A multi-kinase refers to a molecule, typically an inhibitor, that targets and inhibits multiple kinase enzymes simultaneously. Kinases are enzymes responsible for transferring phosphate groups from high-energy molecules like ATP to specific substrates—a process known as phosphorylation. This modification is crucial in regulating protein function, cell signaling pathways, metabolism, growth, proliferation, and other cellular processes. Multi-kinase inhibitors are primarily used in oncology to treat cancers where multiple kinase-driven pathways contribute to disease progression or drug resistance. Examples include drugs targeting VEGFRs, PDGFRs, FGFRs, RET, and MET.
