Multiple endogenous and exogenous antigens refers to a broad and heterogeneous group of molecules that can elicit an immune response. Endogenous antigens include self-proteins, such as those involved in autoimmune reactions or tumor-associated antigens, while exogenous antigens originate from outside the body, including bacteria, viruses, fungi, and toxins (Janeway's Immunobiology). This collective target is most commonly associated with the therapeutic use of Intravenous Immunoglobulin (IVIG), which contains a diverse pool of IgG antibodies capable of binding and neutralizing these various antigens (StatPearls, NBK554446). By interacting with this wide array of targets, IVIG provides passive immunity and exerts anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects. Because it encompasses a vast range of molecular structures rather than a single defined protein, it is considered a collective target category rather than a specific therapeutic target. It is often used in clinical literature to describe the broad-spectrum activity of polyvalent antibody preparations in treating immunodeficiencies and autoimmune disorders.
