Overview

Multiple endogenous coagulation and plasma proteins refers to a broad collective of proteins found in human plasma that are essential for maintaining hemostasis, osmotic balance, and immune surveillance (StatPearls, 2023). This group encompasses various serine proteases known as coagulation factors (such as Factors II, VII, IX, and X), as well as regulatory proteins like Protein C, Protein S, and Antithrombin III (DrugBank, DB09153). In therapeutic contexts, these proteins are targeted as a group through the administration of plasma-derived products to treat complex coagulopathies or massive hemorrhage (PubMed, PMID: 31536301). These products, such as Fresh Frozen Plasma or Prothrombin Complex Concentrates, work by replenishing deficient levels of multiple factors simultaneously to restore the blood's ability to clot (NIH, 2022). Because this term represents a heterogeneous mixture of dozens of distinct molecular entities rather than a single protein, it is often used in pharmacological databases to describe the multi-component nature of whole-plasma therapies.
