Overview

Multiple epidermal growth factor-like domains protein 10 (MEGF10) is a membrane receptor that binds to phosphatidylserine on apoptotic cells and mediates their phagocytosis, especially by macrophages and astrocytes[1][2][5]. It also promotes amyloid-beta peptide uptake in the brain and regulates myogenesis, impacting muscle cell adhesion, motility, and proliferation by interacting with Notch signaling pathways[1][2][6]. In the retina, MEGF10 helps establish mosaic spacing of interneurons. Mutations in MEGF10 can cause severe congenital myopathies (including EMARDD), and its expression has been linked to neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative conditions[1][2].
