01

Overview

Multiple kinases refers to a broad group of enzymes that catalyze the transfer of phosphate groups from high-energy donor molecules (like ATP) to specific substrates, typically proteins. This process, known as phosphorylation, is fundamental in regulating cellular activities such as signal transduction, cell cycle progression, metabolism, and apoptosis. Dysregulation of kinase activity is implicated in many diseases—most notably cancer—due to their roles controlling cell proliferation and survival. Drugs targeting multiple kinases ("multikinase inhibitors") have been developed for complex diseases like cancer where several signaling pathways are dysregulated at once.
