Multiple microbial and host components refers to a complex, heterogeneous mixture of biological entities found in environments such as chronic wounds (slough) or the human microbiome. Therapeutic interventions targeting this 'target' are typically broad-spectrum or physical in nature, such as enzymatic debridement, the use of absorbent dressings, or the administration of probiotics and fecal microbiota transplants to reshape the microbial landscape (Frontiers, 2020; ResearchGate, 2024). Because it encompasses a vast array of distinct molecular and cellular structures rather than a single receptor or enzyme, it is classified as a non-specific or complex biological target rather than a canonical therapeutic target.
