Overview

Paracrine receptors comprise a wide variety of cell surface receptors that bind signaling molecules, known as paracrine factors, responsible for local communication between nearby cells. Examples include fibroblast growth factor receptors (FGFRs), epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), platelet-derived growth factor receptors (PDGFRs), TGF-beta receptors, Wnt receptors, Hedgehog receptors, and many others. These receptors are classified into families such as receptor tyrosine kinases and G protein-coupled receptors, depending on their molecular structure and signaling mechanisms. Individual paracrine receptors play key roles in processes like cell proliferation, differentiation, immune responses, and tissue development, and their dysregulation is often implicated in diseases such as cancer, inflammation, and developmental disorders. Because "multiple paracrine receptors" is a non-specific, collective term, it is not suited for structured molecular target databases and should be replaced with entries for specific receptor types[1][6][7].
