Target intelligence / Profile preview
Multiple physiological pathways involved in Qi regulation is a systems-biology concept derived from Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) that describes the integrated regulation of energy, defense, and homeostasis. In modern scientific literature, Qi regulation is frequently mapped to mitochondrial function and the production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which serves as the primary energy currency of the cell (Leong et al., 2015, Frontiers in Pharmacology). It also encompasses the neuroendocrine-immune (NEI) network, where the interaction between the nervous, endocrine, and immune systems maintains internal stability (Tang et al., 2008, Journal of Ethnopharmacology). Because this concept involves a vast array of molecular players—including cytokines, hormones, and metabolic enzymes—it is not classified as a single therapeutic target but rather a multi-pathway regulatory process. Therapeutic interventions, such as the use of Panax ginseng or Astragalus membranaceus, are thought to tonify Qi by enhancing mitochondrial bioenergetics and modulating immune responses (Li et al., 2022, Phytomedicine). Consequently, while these pathways are critical for addressing conditions like chronic fatigue and immunodeficiency, they represent a holistic pharmacological strategy rather than a specific molecular intervention.
