Overview

Multiple protein kinase refers to a family of enzymes that catalyze the transfer of phosphate groups from ATP to serine, threonine, or tyrosine residues on substrate proteins, regulating their activity, localization, and function. A prominent example is the Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinase (MAPK) cascade, involved in relaying extracellular signals to regulate cell proliferation, differentiation, survival, apoptosis, and gene expression. MAPK pathways typically involve three sequentially activated kinases: MAPKKK, MAPKK, and MAPK. These kinases play central roles in various cellular processes and are highly conserved across eukaryotes.
