Multiple respiratory pathogens refers to a group of viruses and bacteria that can infect the human respiratory tract, often simultaneously. Common viral pathogens include Influenza A/B, RSV, Rhinovirus, Adenovirus, and Coronaviruses (including SARS-CoV-2). Common bacterial pathogens include Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, and Mycoplasma pneumoniae. These pathogens cause a range of illnesses from mild upper respiratory symptoms to severe pneumonia and are typically detected using multiplex PCR-based panels.
