Overview

The multiple sclerosis-associated retrovirus envelope protein (MSRV-Env) is an envelope glycoprotein encoded by the MS-associated retroviral element (MSRV), a member of the Human Endogenous Retrovirus-W (HERV-W) family. It acts as a potent agonist for Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), triggering pro-inflammatory responses and contributing to the pathogenesis of multiple sclerosis. GNbAC1, a monoclonal antibody, targets MSRV-Env to neutralize its pathogenic effects.
