Overview

Multiple tumor-associated antigens (TAAs) are molecules present at elevated levels on tumor cells, but also found at lower levels on normal cells. They include proteins, glycoproteins, oncofetal antigens, cancer-testis antigens, and altered cell surface molecules. TAAs play roles in cell growth, signaling, apoptosis, immune evasion, and stemness. They are used for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes, including targeted therapies and immunotherapies. Challenges include off-target toxicity due to expression in normal tissues.
