Murine Major Histocompatibility Complex class I H-2 heavy chain (H-2 class I)

Target
H-2 class I
Molecular classification
Receptor, Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) Class I, Immunoglobulin superfamily
01

Overview

Murine MHC class I H-2 heavy chains are highly polymorphic transmembrane glycoproteins that constitute the alpha chain of the Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) class I molecule in mice [UniProt: P01901]. These heavy chains non-covalently associate with beta-2 microglobulin to form a functional heterodimer capable of binding and presenting 8-10 amino acid peptides derived from endogenous proteins [PubMed: 2691265]. This presentation is vital for the recognition of self versus non-self by CD8+ cytotoxic T lymphocytes, facilitating the elimination of virally infected or malignant cells [NCBI: Gene ID 14972]. In the context of drug development, H-2 molecules are central to studies involving murine models of transplantation, cancer vaccines, and autoimmune diseases [PubMed: 15634887]. Therapeutic strategies often involve modulating the H-2-peptide-TCR axis to either enhance immune surveillance against tumors or induce tolerance in graft-versus-host disease [PubMed: 30206144].
