Target intelligence / Profile preview

Muscarinic Acetylcholine Receptor M3 Subtype (M3)

Target
M3
Molecular classification
G protein-coupled receptor, Receptor
01

Overview

The muscarinic acetylcholine receptor M3 subtype (M3, CHRM3) is a G protein-coupled receptor that mediates many of the physiological effects of acetylcholine. It is highly expressed in smooth muscle tissues, exocrine glands, endocrine glands, lungs, pancreas, and certain regions of the brain. Activation leads to smooth muscle contraction, glandular secretion, and vascular effects. It is targeted by therapeutic drugs for airway obstructive diseases, urge urinary incontinence, and irritable bowel syndrome.
