Overview

MX1 antisense RNA 1 (MX1-AS1) is a human long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) classified as an antisense transcript to the MX1 gene. It is affiliated with the lncRNA class and has alternative names such as hLinfRNA3 and AP001610.5[2]. MX1-AS1 does not encode a protein but is implicated in the regulation of gene expression at the RNA level, likely through base-pairing interactions or as a scaffold for RNA-binding proteins. LncRNAs of this class are involved in controlling the immune response, particularly the interferon pathway, and inflammatory processes[2]. Although MX1-AS1 has structural and regulatory parallels to other immune regulatory lncRNAs, there are currently no reports of it being a direct therapeutic target or of any drugs interacting with this molecule. Its roles are primarily in the modulation of gene networks related to inflammation and viral defense, but its specific mechanisms and clinical applications remain to be elucidated[2]. **Note:** MX1-AS1 should not be confused with "MX1" (MX dynamin-like GTPase 1), which is a protein-coding gene involved in antiviral responses[7][8]. There is no indication of incorrectness in the naming or identity of the RNA described here[2].
