Overview

MYCBP associated protein (MYCBPAP) is an intracellular protein predominantly expressed in the testis, where it plays a role in spermatogenesis. It is a binding partner of the c-Myc binding protein AMY-1 and is thought to modulate c-Myc–dependent transcriptional regulation during sperm development. The protein is localized in the cytoplasm and possibly mitochondria, may participate in the regulation of synaptic processes, and is predicted to have molecular functions including clathrin binding, phospholipid binding, and protein binding. Genetic variants in MYCBPAP have been associated with certain forms of male infertility, particularly asthenoteratozoospermia, but no direct therapeutic targeting or biomarker applications are established to date.
