The Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) cell wall is a complex and essential structure responsible for maintaining cell integrity, providing resistance to environmental stressors, and contributing to virulence. It is composed of peptidoglycan, arabinogalactan, mycolic acids, and serovar-specific glycopeptidolipids (ssGPLs). Inhibition of cell wall synthesis disrupts bacterial integrity, increases permeability, and enhances susceptibility to other antibiotics or host defenses.
