Target intelligence / Profile preview

Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tuberculosis)

Target
M. tuberculosis
Molecular classification
Bacteria, Pathogen
01

Overview

Mycobacterium tuberculosis is the causative agent of tuberculosis (TB). It is a slow-growing bacterium with a unique waxy cell wall rich in mycolic acids. It primarily infects the lungs but can affect other organs. Infection occurs via inhalation of airborne droplets. Treatment involves antibiotics, but drug resistance is a major challenge.
