Myelin expression factor 2 (MYEF2)

Target
MYEF2
Molecular classification
Transcription factor, RNA-binding protein
01

Overview

Myelin expression factor 2 (MYEF2) is a transcriptional repressor protein primarily located in the nucleus, encoded by the MYEF2 gene on human chromosome 15. It represses the transcription of the myelin basic protein (MBP) gene by binding to the MB1 element of the MBP promoter, playing a role in brain development and neuronal differentiation. MYEF2 also has RNA binding activity and is involved in myotube differentiation. It is overexpressed in hepatocellular carcinoma and other cancers, promoting cell migration and invasion, and is emerging as a biomarker associated with tumor progression and prognosis, especially in liver cancer.
