Myelin transcription factor 1 (Myt1) is a neural-specific, zinc finger-containing DNA-binding protein that acts as both a transcription factor and a kinase. It plays a critical role in oligodendrocyte development and myelination within the central nervous system by regulating the expression of key myelin genes. Myt1 also functions in cell cycle regulation by inhibiting CDK1 through phosphorylation. Dysregulation of Myt1 has been implicated in demyelinating diseases and gliomas, making it a potential therapeutic target.
