Overview

Myeloid-associated differentiation marker-like protein 2 (MYADML2) is a member of the MAL (myelin and lymphocyte protein) family of integral membrane proteins, containing two MARVEL (myelin and lymphocyte protein and related proteins for vesicle formation and membrane link) domains, and predicted to span membranes with eight segments[4]. MYADML2 is highly expressed in skeletal muscle and to a lesser extent in brain and testis[4]. While the MAL family is involved in organizing membrane microdomains, vesicular trafficking, and diverse signal transduction pathways, the specific biological roles for MYADML2 remain unclear. Experimental evidence suggests that MYADML2 is upregulated in hepatocellular carcinoma and promotes cell proliferation and invasion, with loss of MYADML2 reducing cancer aggressiveness and resistance to chemotherapeutics[2]. It is not an established therapeutic target, receptor, or enzyme, and there are no known drugs that specifically interact with this protein. By sequence and structure, it is most closely related to MYADM, which has established immunological and cellular functions, but direct evidence for MYADML2’s roles is minimal[4][2][1].
