Overview
Myeloid cell leukemia 1 protein (MCL1) is a member of the BCL-2 family of proteins and a key regulator of apoptosis, promoting cell survival by inhibiting pro-apoptotic proteins such as Bax and Bak. It also plays roles in mitochondrial homeostasis and cellular metabolism. MCL1 is frequently overexpressed in various cancers, making it a therapeutic target. Approaches to targeting MCL1 include direct inhibition and modulation of its splicing to promote pro-apoptotic isoforms.
