Myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) are a heterogeneous population of immature myeloid cells characterized by their potent immunosuppressive activity. They suppress T cell activity, modulate innate immunity, and contribute to tumor progression by inhibiting antitumor immunity, promoting angiogenesis, facilitating metastasis, and contributing to drug resistance. MDSC-mediated immunosuppression involves depletion of nutrients, production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and nitric oxide (NO), and secretion of immunosuppressive cytokines.
