01

Overview

A myeloid-derived suppressor cell (MDSC) modulator is any molecule, drug, or biological agent that alters the development, function, recruitment, or survival of MDSCs. MDSCs are a heterogeneous population of immature myeloid cells with potent immunosuppressive properties. They play critical roles in regulating immune responses in cancer and other pathological conditions by inhibiting T cell activity and promoting tumor progression. Therapeutic strategies include inhibiting MDSCs in cancer to enhance anti-tumor immunity and enhancing MDSC function in autoimmunity and transplantation to suppress excessive immune responses.

Mechanism of action

Varies depending on the specific modulator; includes inhibition of STAT3/C/EBPβ signaling, blockade of MDSC recruitment, inhibition of MDSC suppressive function, promotion of MDSC differentiation, modulation of ARG1/iNOS activity, modulation of cytokine secretion.
