Overview

Myeloid leukemia factor 2 (MLF2) is a protein encoded by the MLF2 gene in humans. It is predicted to play a role in the regulation of DNA-templated transcription and is located on cellular membranes[3][5]. Experimental studies in model organisms (notably Drosophila) and human leukemic cells implicate MLF2 and its closely related family members in the regulation of blood cell lineage homeostasis, acting partly through stabilization of RUNX transcription factors and participation in molecular chaperone complexes[1]. Deregulation or aberrant function of MLF family proteins, including MLF2, is associated with hematological malignancies such as acute myeloid leukemia, possibly due to effects on the stabilization and activity of oncogenic fusion transcription factors or RUNX proteins[1][3][5]. Early research highlights its importance in progenitor cell maintenance, blood cell differentiation, and its possible contribution to leukemogenesis; however, the full physiological and pathological roles in humans remain under investigation.
