Overview

The myeloid precursor cell differentiation pathway describes the progressive development of blood cells of the myeloid lineage from multipotent hematopoietic stem cells within the bone marrow. Through defined stages—common myeloid progenitors and subsequent restricted progenitors—cells differentiate into multiple types including granulocytes, monocytes, erythrocytes, and platelets. This process is regulated by a complex interplay of transcription factors, signaling pathways (e.g., mTORC1, WNT), and cell surface markers. Dysregulation of myeloid differentiation is implicated in a range of hematological disorders, including acute myeloid leukemia and myelodysplasia.
