MYL12A and MYL12B antisense RNA 1 (MYL12-AS1)

Target
MYL12-AS1
Molecular classification
Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), Antisense RNA, Other (noncoding RNA)
01

Overview

MYL12-AS1 is a long non-coding antisense RNA transcribed from the MYL12A and MYL12B gene locus. Like other lncRNA antisense transcripts, it is involved in complex regulation of gene expression, potentially affecting transcription, translation, and chromatin state. Antisense RNAs are important regulators in both physiological and pathological contexts, including cancer, imprinting, and development. They can act by affecting transcription either in cis (locally at their site of synthesis) or in trans (distantly within the nucleus), and their mechanisms include transcriptional interference via promoter competition, occlusion, and chromatin remodeling. Although MYL12-AS1 has not been established as a direct drug target or biomarker, the broader class of antisense lncRNAs is attracting growing attention in basic RNA biology and precision medicine research.
