MYL12A pseudogene 1 (MYL12AP1) is a processed pseudogene with high sequence similarity to the MYL12A gene, which codes for myosin regulatory light chain 12A, a protein involved in smooth muscle and non-muscle cell contraction, actin cytoskeleton regulation, and cell division. Unlike the functional gene, the pseudogene does not produce a protein and is not directly involved in any biological pathways or diseases. Some pseudogenes can generate non-coding RNAs with a modulatory effect on gene expression, but there is no evidence that MYL12AP1 has such functions. Pseudogenes such as MYL12AP1 are generally considered non-functional genomic sequences and not therapeutic targets.
