MYL6B antisense RNA 1 (MYL6B-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed from the antisense strand of the MYL6B gene locus on chromosome 12. As an antisense RNA, its primary role is likely regulation of the expression of the sense (protein-coding) gene MYL6B through RNA-RNA interactions, which can modulate mRNA stability, translation, or chromatin state. It belongs to the family of natural antisense transcripts, which do not encode proteins but function in gene expression control, typically in a cis-acting manner—meaning it regulates genes located at or near its own locus. There is currently no evidence that MYL6B-AS1 functions as a conventional therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter, nor are there drugs that directly interact with this RNA. No strong association with human disease or clinical biomarker use is reported for MYL6B-AS1 itself, but its sense partner MYL6B is studied in cancer contexts.
