Myocardial Cell Cytosol

Molecular classification
Cellular compartment, Intracellular fluid
01

Overview

The myocardial cell cytosol refers to the intracellular fluid found within cardiac muscle cells (cardiomyocytes), excluding organelles and other subcellular structures. It is the site of numerous metabolic processes, ion fluxes, and signaling events essential for heart muscle contraction and relaxation. Abnormalities in its composition or ionic environment can lead to impaired contractility or arrhythmias. Release of specific proteins into circulation upon cardiomyocyte injury serves as clinical biomarkers for heart damage.
