Overview

Myocardial zonula adherens protein (MYZAP) is a protein abundantly expressed in cardiac tissue, concentrated at intercalated discs of cardiomyocytes where it is involved in cell–cell adhesion and signaling. It participates in cellular signaling through Rho-related GTP-binding proteins and activates transcription factor SRF, which is critical for maintaining cardiac structure and function. MYZAP is essential for normal cardiac performance; its dysfunction is associated with cardiac disease but it is not currently recognized as a therapeutic target, nor are there known drugs or biomarkers specific to it[2][3][5].
