Overview

Cardiac muscle, also known as myocardium, is a specialized type of involuntary, striated muscle tissue found exclusively in the heart. It is responsible for the contractile activity that pumps blood throughout the body. Unlike skeletal muscle (which is under voluntary control), cardiac muscle contracts automatically and rhythmically without conscious input.
