Overview

MYOCD antisense RNA 1 (MYOCD-AS1) is a human long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed antisense to the MYOCD gene, known as a natural antisense transcript (NAT)[4][5][6]. As an antisense lncRNA, MYOCD-AS1 is postulated to regulate the expression and function of the MYOCD (myocardin) gene, a key transcriptional coactivator for smooth muscle and cardiac muscle gene expression, via several mechanisms including transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulation[5]. The exact biological role of MYOCD-AS1 remains incompletely characterized, and no direct therapeutic targeting, disease linkage, or biomarker status has been reported. It is classified as an lncRNA rather than a classical therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter[4][5][6].
