The myocyte antigen presentation pathway refers to the cellular mechanisms by which muscle cells (myocytes) process and present antigens to the immune system. While professional antigen-presenting cells (APCs) are primarily responsible, myocytes can present antigens under certain conditions, particularly during inflammation or autoimmune responses. This involves processing protein antigens, loading peptides onto MHC molecules (MHC Class I and MHC Class II), and displaying these complexes on the cell surface for recognition by T lymphocytes. Aberrant activation of this pathway may play a role in autoimmune disorders affecting muscles.
