Myocyte Enhancer Factor 2 (None)

Target
None
Molecular classification
Transcription factor, MADS-box transcription factor
01

Overview

Myocyte enhancer factor 2 (MEF2) refers to a family of transcription factors critical for cellular differentiation, especially in muscle cells. MEF2 proteins regulate gene expression during embryonic development and mediate stress responses in adult tissues. The four main isoforms (MEF2A, MEF2B, MEF2C, and MEF2D) are expressed in distinct patterns, and dysregulation is linked to cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases. MEF2 binds DNA as dimers and regulates target gene expression via activation or repression.
