Overview

Myosin-binding protein H-like (MYBPHL) is a cytoskeletal protein expressed predominantly in cardiac atrial tissue, sharing domain homology with myosin-binding protein C (cMyBP-C) and containing two immunoglobulin superfamily domains and a fibronectin III domain[2][3][4][5]. This protein is localized in the A-band C-zone of atrial sarcomeres, where it regulates the abundance and spatial arrangement of cMyBP-C, thereby influencing atrial myofibril relaxation and cardiac conduction, particularly in the atria[2][3]. Mutations or altered expression of MYBPHL are associated with disorders suchs as dilated cardiomyopathy and long QT syndrome, and it has been proposed as a specific biomarker for atrial myocardial injury due to its restricted atrial expression[3][4]. There are two isoforms differing by a 23-amino acid deletion[4]. There are currently no known drugs that directly target MYBPHL, nor therapeutic strategies specifically modulating this protein.
