Target intelligence / Profile preview

Myosin heavy chain 13 (MYH13)

Target
MYH13
Molecular classification
Motor protein, Enzyme (ATPase activity), Cytoskeletal protein
01

Overview

Myosin heavy chain 13 (MYH13) encodes a superfast myosin isoform with ATPase activity, specialized for rapid and precise contractions in specific striated muscles—most notably the extraocular muscles controlling eye movement, as well as laryngeal and syringeal muscles. It is characterized by its ability to catalyze actin-myosin interactions that lead to high-velocity, low-tension muscle contractions. MYH13 is a member of the myosin heavy chain family, displaying restricted expression compared to other isoforms. Genetic variants have been associated with certain muscle-related disorders, but the protein is not an established therapeutic target or biomarker.
