Myosin II, also known as conventional myosin, is a hexameric motor protein responsible for muscle contraction and force generation in eukaryotic cells. It converts chemical energy from ATP hydrolysis into mechanical work by interacting with actin filaments. Myosin II's activity is regulated by phosphorylation and plays crucial roles in muscle contraction, cytokinesis, cell migration, and other cellular processes. Different isoforms are adapted to specific tissues.
Inhibiting Myosin II ATPase activity disrupts actin-myosin interactions, impairing cell contractility and movement.
