Overview

Myosin light chain 6B (MYL6B) is a myosin alkali light chain protein expressed in both slow-twitch skeletal muscle and nonmuscle tissues and is a structural component of the myosin hexameric ATPase motor complex, where it regulates cytoskeletal organization and actin/microtubule dynamics as part of cellular motility processes. It does not bind calcium but helps modulate myosin ATPase activity and fine-tunes muscle contraction and cell structure maintenance. MYL6B is implicated in broader cellular processes through interactions with signaling proteins, and recent studies suggest roles in cancer progression (notably by promoting MDM2-mediated p53 degradation in hepatocellular carcinoma), but it is not currently established as a direct therapeutic target.
