Overview

Myosin light chain kinase pseudogene 2 (MYLKP2) is a designated pseudogene located in the human genome and is related to the functional myosin light chain kinase (MYLK) gene. Pseudogenes are typically nonfunctional genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes, and most do not encode functional proteins. Though research has characterized some pseudogenes of MYLK, particularly MYLKP1, which can regulate its parent gene and impact cell proliferation and cancer biology, there is no validated evidence or literature describing MYLKP2 as having functional biological roles, involvement in disease, druggability, or recognized biomarker status. Important context: The best-studied myosin light chain kinase pseudogene is MYLKP1, which has been shown to regulate the expression of functional MYLK and influence cell proliferation in cancer. There is no scientific literature or database evidence for any functional, disease, or drug interaction roles for "MYLKP2" as a distinct entity. It is therefore not considered a canonical drug or disease target, nor does it have recognized biological, therapeutic, or biomarker roles. The existence, nomenclature, or biological details of "MYLKP2" are ambiguous or possibly incorrect in the current biomedical literature. No established roles or properties are documented for MYLKP2, unlike MYLKP1. "MYLKP2" appears to be either a misannotation, rarely used alternate name, or an uncharacterized/poorly characterized pseudogene. It is not a recognized therapeutic target or molecule with established function; thus, its suitability as a drug target is unsupported, and the name is potentially incorrect or non-standard in the scientific literature.
