Target intelligence / Profile preview

Myotubularin (MTM1)

Target
MTM1
Molecular classification
Protein Tyrosine Phosphatase Superfamily, Myotubularins, Lipid Phosphatase
01

Overview

Myotubularin is a dual-specific lipid phosphatase that dephosphorylates phosphatidylinositol 3-phosphate [PI(3)P] and phosphatidylinositol (3,5)-bisphosphate [PI(3,5)P2]. It plays a crucial role in muscle cell differentiation and membrane trafficking processes. Mutations in the MTM1 gene cause X-linked myotubular myopathy.

02

Mechanism of action

Dephosphorylation of PI(3)P and PI(3,5)P2

03
