Overview

N-acetylglucosaminyl-phosphatidylinositol de-N-acetylase (PIGL) is an enzyme that catalyzes the second step of glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) anchor biosynthesis, specifically the de-N-acetylation of N-acetylglucosaminyl-phosphatidylinositol. This reaction is essential for the assembly of GPI anchors, which attach numerous proteins to the cell membrane. Altered PIGL activity can disrupt proper cell surface protein localization and has been linked to cancer immune evasion mechanisms as well as congenital disorders of glycosylation.
