Overview

N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase V (GnT-V / MGAT5) is a type II membrane-bound glycosyltransferase enzyme that catalyzes the transfer of N-acetylglucosamine (GlcNAc) to the core α1,6-mannose residue of N-glycan acceptors, forming a β1,6-GlcNAc branch. This modification is crucial for generating complex tri- and tetra-antennary N-glycan structures and influences cell signaling, immune responses, and disease progression, particularly in cancer and autoimmune disorders.
